Automotive

In the automotive industry, precision, short cycle times, and maximum availability are top priorities. Our automation solutions are designed precisely for this: robust, well-engineered systems that meet the high demands of series production and operate smoothly even in multi-shift operations. From assembly to testing to traceability, we ensure that quality is never left to chance.

Automated production of connectors

Keyfacts

  • Production of various types of connectors
  • Fully automated handling and data logistics
  • High repeat accuracy and flexibility
  • Use in a series production plant for a renowned customer

Task

Our customer needed a system that could semi-automatically manufacture different variants of connectors. The solution had to ensure reliable feeding, processing and data handling, and be able to respond flexibly to variant changes. In addition, high quantities with consistent quality were required – with direct integration of data for traceability.

Solution

We developed a semi-automated system in which the operator inserts the raw parts as required in order to subject them to visual and haptic inspection. All process steps – from feeding and processing to data recording – are seamlessly mapped. Conveyor technology ensures reliable part feeding, robot handling takes care of precise measurement, and the central control system records all relevant parameters and compiles them in a database. Variant changes and format changes are easy to implement thanks to the modular design, interchangeable parts and intuitive user interface. The result: a production line with high repeat accuracy, great flexibility and efficient data logistics.

Powder dosing system in ATEX design

Key facts

  • Dosing accuracy: ± 2 mg for two powder types
  • Cycle time: 7 s per dosing / 1.75 s per detonator
  • Safety concept with pressure container & protective personnel
  • Integration into existing workpiece carrier system

Task

Two explosives in the milligram range must be precisely dosed and layered for the filling of airbag detonators. The required process times are highly synchronized: 8 seconds per dosing, 2 seconds per detonator. Powder handling is carried out under the highest safety precautions by trained personnel. The system must be integrated into an existing workpiece carrier system.

Solution

Two filling systems, each with two dosing stations, ensure precise and reliable powder processing. Dosing takes place via spiral conveyors and weighing modules in specially developed safety containers. The refiller enables safe powder feeding by the personnel. YZ axis systems and a conveyor belt guarantee efficient workpiece transportation within the overall system.

Transer System with Handling

Key facts

  • 100% testing system for electric actuators
  • 5 test cells + 1 laser cell
  • Cycle time: 2 seconds
  • Electrically driven main movements
  • Gentle handling thanks to linear motors

Task

Electric actuators are to be tested, marked and packaged fully automatically in a system with five test cells and one laser marking cell. The system must achieve a total cycle time of 2 seconds. All main movements are to be carried out electrically and the DMC code is to be read before the test.

Solution

A circulating workpiece carrier system supplies the test cells with actuators. Pick-and-place handling units driven by linear motors take over the precise transfer to the test stations. Good parts are reset, bad parts are automatically separated. Once the test has been passed, the parts are laser-marked and automatically packaged, with full ease of servicing and modular safety casing.
